Designing a floor plan with AI Diagrams

From plot and requirements to a to-scale floor plan with a Tamil Nadu rule check.

AI Diagrams designs a floor plan from the plot and what the client needs, draws it to scale, and checks it against the building rules your admin keeps (Tamil Nadu TNCDBR-2019 by default).

  1. 1Go to AI Diagrams. Enter the plot: width and depth, or choose an L-shaped, cut-out corner or any-shape plot with corner points.
  2. 2Pick the road side (facing) and the road width. With a rule set chosen, the setbacks fill in by themselves - you can still change them.
  3. 3Enter the building type, floors, bedrooms and bathrooms (optional), tick extras like car parking, pooja room or sit-out, and choose Modern or Traditional. Tick Vastu if the client wants it.
  4. 4In "Describe what you need", write anything else in your own words - for example "parents' bedroom on the ground floor, open kitchen".
  5. 5Click Design floor plan - or Design 2 / 3 options to get different layouts side by side, then Use this option on the one you like. A design takes a few minutes; it opens by itself when ready.

The plan shows room names, sizes and areas, doors and windows, and the checks: whether every room fits inside the setbacks, the coverage and FSI, parking and room sizes against the rules.

  1. 1Switch between Colour and CAD views, and between ft-in and metres.
  2. 2Click a room to rename it, change its size or move its label.
  3. 3To change the layout, type an instruction such as "move the kitchen to the south-east" and click Apply. CAT AI revises the same plan.
Tip: Every plan is saved in History. Reopening a saved plan is free; designing the exact same requirements again also opens the saved plan instead of using tokens.
The rule check is a guide, not an approval. Check the plan with the local authority (CMDA / DTCP / corporation) before you submit it.
